Update on Upcoming Weather Report

January 3, 2018

Dear Parents/Guardians,

The local weather reports are predicting varying amounts of snowfall for tonight and tomorrow morning. As of this afternoon, we expect that we will be open tomorrow, Thursday, January 4th.

Depending on where your residence is located, please use your judgement in making decisions about whether or not to travel in the morning, keeping safety in mind at all times.

Since circumstances may change with the latest weather models, please be advised that we will be using the Parent Alert System to communicate with you by email and/or text message.  Also, we will be updating our website at and Facebook page to reflect the latest news on school closing.  CBS-TV Channel 2 news will also report any school closing information.

PLEASE ALSO NOTE THAT WHEN THE NYC DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION PUBLIC SCHOOLS CLOSE FOR WEATHER RELATED REASONS, ALL ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS AND ACADEMIES WITHIN THE DIOCESE OF BROOKLYN WILL CLOSE.  The snow closing message (Academies and Parish Schools within the Diocese of Brooklyn are closed) will be posted on the Diocesan website,   A radio announcement will be made on WINS 1010 and CBS 880.  In addition, the announcement will be posted to ABC 7, CBS 2, NBC 4 and News 1.

At this point, due to the inclement weather, ALL grades could wear their Gym uniforms for the rest of the week.

Gift Giving Day at OLGCA!

Today, during this very busy season, OLGCA had a chance to slow down and give back to our community!

The students of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Academy generously gave back!  Each year, we work with Our Lady of Mercy Church and St. Michael’s Church in Brooklyn.  Our students buy Christmas Gifts for children (of all different age groups) of those parishes that are in need of a brighter Christmas. This is such a humbling day for our children as they are taught a very valuable lesson…it is better to give than receive.

Each child (from Pre3 to 8th grade) were able to present their gifts to the representatives of the churches.  By the time they were done, the stage was full of Christmas presents!
